Discover Egypt
If you're interested in history and want to follow in the footsteps of the Pharaohs, then Egypt is the place for you. Culture has a special place in Egypt, and the country's heritage is particularly well preserved. The pyramids, including Giza, are among the most popular tourist attractions and have even been listed as a World Heritage Site since the late 1970s.. And who knows? You might even come across a mummy along the way...
Preparing for your trip
A trip to Egypt can't be improvised. Above all, remember to have your vaccinations checked and repeated if necessary.. It is especially important to pay attention to vaccines against hepatitis A or DTPP.
Book your tickets in advance. You'll be able to take advantage of attractive promotions and lower fares. There are many flights between France and Egypt, mainly from major cities such as Marseille, Paris and Lyon. It is possible to land in Luxor or Cairo. The average flight lasts between 4h30 and 5h.
Don't forget to prepare all the administrative paperwork you may need when you're there. You must have a passport that is valid for at least 6 months from the date of your arrival in the country..
What's more, if you want to travel to Egypt, a visa is required. If you want to obtain a visa, you need to go to the Egyptian consulate in your country and apply for one. But the application can take a long time. If you're in a hurry or can't get to the consulate, you can opt for an e-tourist visa. Since 2017, the Egyptian authorities have opened a portal through which it is possible to obtain an electronic tourist visa.. To make sure you get your visa on time, you need to apply for it at least a few days before your departure date. You will need to fill in a form including your travel dates and details of your host, among other things. You will also need to upload your passport (including the page with the photograph).
It's a costly but affordable operation. Expect to pay around 25,00 € for a simple visa, allowing a stay of around thirty days, and 60,00 € for a multiple-entry visa, which allows you to make several stays of at least 30 days over a 6-month period. Agency fees may be added if you go through an intermediary.
A number of sites offer to act as intermediaries between you and the Egyptian authorities. This makes it easier to complete the various formalities. The intermediary sites take care of all the administrative formalities and then send you the visa. This avoids mistakes and the risk of the authorities refusing your visa.
Once your application has been submitted and accepted by the authorities, you will receive it by e-mail. Print it out and present it when you arrive in Egypt.. You will also need to provide a copy of your itinerary and the address of your hosts or confirmation of your hotel reservation.
