Travelling to Egypt: what about a visa on arrival?

When you travel to Egypt, it is now compulsory to have a visa. You can choose between an e-visa or a visa on arrival. How do I obtain a visa on arrival? What steps do I need to take?

Visa on arrival

This is a visa that has been in place for many years by the Egyptian authorities, allowing tourists to travel to Egypt. It can be obtained at the Egyptian border by queuing up and filling in an application form. You need to buy the visa sticker and present it with your passport when you go through immigration control.

To obtain a visa on arrival, you need to be a national of one of the eligible countries (such as France) and have a passport valid for 6 months from the date of your return.

If you choose to apply for a visa on arrival, please note that it costs 23 €. Please note that it is not possible to pay by credit or debit card. So remember to bring this amount in cash so that you can pay with peace of mind.

The visa on arrival allows you to stay in Egypt for a maximum of 30 days and authorizes only one entry into the country.

You can also travel to Egypt with an identity card. In this case, when you apply for your visa on arrival, you should remember to take two colour passport photos in the usual format (usually 5×5), which will be stapled to your application form.

Electronic visa or e-Visa: what's the difference with a visa on arrival?

For some years now, it has also been possible to apply for an e-Visa to visit Egypt. With the e-Visa, you can choose a single-entry or multiple-entry visa to suit your needs. Applying for an e-Visa is quick and easy. You can apply at home, from your computer, without having to queue. This saves you the hassle of obtaining a visa on arrival.

The form is quick to fill in and you can pay the fees by credit or debit card directly online. Your visa will be sent to you by e-mail once your application has been registered and approved by the Egyptian authorities.
